Description
The distinctive voices of Caroline Dufau and Lila Fraysse blend into a hypnotic polyphony, driven by the pulse of stringed tambourines, stomping feet, and clapping hands.
In this striking musical encounter, the two artists showcase their complementary vocal personalities, forged by twelve years of artistic partnership.
"Cocanha" embraces minimalism and draws on the aesthetic of amplified music, compelling the body to dance. The duo draws from the traditional Occitan repertoire, breathing new life into archival material and keeping the oral tradition alive. Some lyrics are rewritten while others are newly invented, springing from a shared, open-air imagination. The female characters in the songs reclaim and assert their own desire and agency. The acclaimed release of their previous album, *Puput* (Pagans, 2020)—produced by Raül Refree—established the group as part of the exciting generation of artists emerging from traditional music, alongside the likes of Rodrigo Cuevas.
