Description
Arcueil, July 1925: the body of Erik Satie, the French composer and pianist, is found in his apartment amidst squalor and disarray.
Throughout his life, he was an artist who lacked recognition, rejected by the official institutions of his day due to his eccentricities and his "aesthetic of poverty." A collaborator of Picasso, Cocteau, and Duchamp, he upended the musical conventions of his time. Yet, Satie created music that was both simple and radical, foreshadowing the major movements of the 20th century. Through archival footage and personal accounts, this documentary traces the journey of a composer who, by refusing to align himself with any specific musical school, established himself as a pioneer of modernity.
