Description

Come discover one of our city’s most iconic landmarks, a rare example of Art Nouveau architecture in the southwest. Guided tour in partnership with the Hôtel Marceillac and the Association for the Preservation of Castelsarrasin Heritage (ASPC)
Come discover one of our city’s iconic landmarks, a rare example of Art Nouveau architecture in the Southwest. Built in 1912 by Pierre-Adrien Marceillac, based on plans by Montalbanais architect Antonin Maurou, the Grand Hôtel Moderne lives up to its name: innovation was at the heart of its founder’s vision. The layout of the reception areas and guest rooms, which mirrors that of the grand hotels of the era, reflects this modernity. As for the ornamentation of the facades and furnishings, it draws inspiration from Art Nouveau, the revolutionary style that has influenced all forms of expression since the late 19th century. This artistic movement, which emphasizes curved, slender, and proliferating lines, draws its inspiration from nature, with an abundance of plant and animal forms. While the principles of this new artistic universe are here restrained and airy, elegance is certainly present. Discovering this hotel, run by the Marceillac family for five generations, will immerse you in a Belle Époque atmosphere: a true leap back in time.
