Description

Discover the story of Antoine Laumet, born in St. Nicolas de la Grave, who crossed the Atlantic, explored Canada, and became Sieur de Lamothe Cadillac, the founder of Detroit. His name inspired the famous car brand.
Antoine Laumet, a native of St. Nicolas de la Grave, led an extraordinary life. After crossing the Atlantic, he distinguished himself as a trapper in Canada. He later changed his name to Sieur de Lamothe Cadillac, mapped the Great Lakes, and founded Fort Pontchartrain, now the city of Detroit. Upon his return to France, he served as governor of Castelsarrasin. His legacy is such that General Motors chose his name for its luxury automobiles, the Cadillacs. Guided tour in French
